On the Internet, No One Knows You’re a Dog | Dominic Cordisco | TEDxNewburgh

The line between fact and opinion blurs with the increasing use of social media to spread opinions masquerading as fact and deliberate misinformation – fake news. Fake news is not just a national or global problem – it disrupts public opinion and civil discourse on a daily and local level. Dominic Cordisco is a partner with the Hudson Valley law firm of Drake Loeb PLLC. He practices land use and environmental law for municipal and private clients. Mr. Cordisco lectures on various topics including SEQRA, wetlands regulation, endangered species, mining, underground storage and oil spills, and appears regularly before the New York Association of Towns, the New York State Bar Association, the New York Planning Federation and the Orange County Municipal Planning Federation. He received the Murray Award for Outstanding Public Service. In 2012, the Orange County Partnership honored Mr. Cordisco with its MVP Most Valued Partner award, and in 2013 he received the Henry Award for Valley Visionaries from Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress. Dominic lives in Cornwall-on-Hudson with his wife Amy and son Rocco, and serves as secretary to the Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School PTO. 1. I recently found out that the picture of traffic on the Goshen NY page may have been posted by someone not opposed to LEGOLAND New York. That’s not apparent from the original post, but there is a response in the comments that makes that claim. The point remains that social media postings are difficult to verify and in any event affect public opinion.

  2. Well done and well said Dominic.

  4. I have been waiting a long time for someone who has done the actual research to make a presentation like this.
