7 Essential Knots You Need To Know

Aside from tying shoes, a lot of people don’t know, or need a refresher on tying knots. Knowing these knots will get you through most situations you will encounter, and they are the ones I use most often.

The knots covered in this video are:
Square Knot (Reef Knot)
Clove Hitch (Builder’s Hitch, Tied in a bight, and at an end)
Sheet Bend (And Double Sheet Bend)
Bowline (Tied two ways)
Figure 8 loop (Tied 3 ways)
Round Turn + Two 1/2 Hitches
Taut-Line Hitch

  1. Strange that I seem to use a lot of knots, never really been taught probably, and as far as functionality, all seem very similar to what I have taught myself.
I'm definitely going to start practicing the proper way.

  2. excellent presentation thank you learned a lot

  3. I learned the Square knot in 34 seconds!

  4. What type of rope are you using?

  5. Wtf should I know to tie these knots I am not fucking Bear Grylls man

  6. I am wondering for that.nice vedio

  7. I remember some knots from scouts…….thank you !!

  8. Once you've tied the knot, that is literally the hardest knot to get out of alive and not go broke!

  9. If you can’t tie a good knot, tie bunch of bad knots

  10. In Australia, we call the the taut line knot a rolling hitch lol! Great vid man, clear demonstration!

  11. I was going to share this with my students, but the lame "sissy" joke at the beginning ruled that out.

  12. Thanks for the video – is that taut-line hitch sometimes called a rolling hitch?

  13. thank you. very informative & useful.

  14. Muy bien explicados todos estos nudos y son los esenciales…!!!

  15. I'm confused if I'm boating or doing home and garden work, which knot do I use?

  16. do yo reply to every comment?

  17. Never knew about double sheet bend – should be better when there’s a big difference in diameters

  18. Good informative video.

  19. Was that a nuse🤔😦

  20. I’m just trying to fix my bracelet 😭

  21. Which one would be the best to use to eliminate the sag on a clothesline?

  22. While consistent practice is key to remembering how to 'tie a knot', the more you try to remember, the less you are likely to retain any of them properly. Duplicate (or near duplicate) knots are the most confusing, too…like sheet bend vs square knot…both doing the same work, one simple difference…for most, just knowing the square knot would suffice. Same with the 'taut line' vs 'trucker's hitch'…you'll use the trucker's hitch a LOT MORE, and can do everything with it, you'd do with the taut line…simple in-line figure 8 and a round turn knot…you can get 'critical need' knots down to 4, pretty easy…then truly work to remember them from there.

  23. You screwed up on your first demo of the reef knot. Watch it yourself and listen carefully to what you are saying.

  24. I am here after Rosita teaching Sasha in TWD 🙂

  25. Bowline and sheet bend are the same knot. Also the figure 8 is easy to convert to a bowline, if you bring the loop backward over the knot, and loosen the lower double loop of the figure 8 knot to tighten the single loop running over the top of the figure 8 knot, you get a bowline with two loops (bowline on a bight).

  26. There's another quick method of square knot the loop to loop in pull (not sure the exact term )

  27. I use these knots often in my construction job. People think I'm very cool knowing how to tie all these knots. Thanks for the video!👍

  28. this is useless for beginners. it moves way to fast. this video doesn't TEACH it SHOWS. they're's a big fkn difference

  29. 03:09 Bowlin' knot? Maybe boh line.

  30. What about the alpine knot

  31. I was in the navy and the way we use to learnt the bowline was. A rabbit comes out of its hole, around the tree and back down the hole again.
Did you also know that the bowline, you can pull tons of weight and it’s the easiest knot to still undo. Most other knots would jamb up
